Job Summary

The Operating Room Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care to patients undergoing advanced perioperative procedures across various specialties, including CVOR, Neuro, Difficult Airway, Transplant, and Ophthalmology. You will play a crucial role in the surgical team, ensuring optimal patient care and safety.

This position requires the ability to take calls, including weekends, and is also eligible for a $15,000 sign-on bonus.

Essential Functions

  • Provide direct nursing care according to established policies and state nursing regulations.
  • Document surgical procedures, ensuring accurate counts and preparation for complex surgeries.
  • Operate and prepare sophisticated surgical equipment.
  • Administer medications and treatments following approved nursing protocols.
  • Assess patient needs and create or adjust individualized plans of care.
  • Monitor patients' progress and adjust care plans based on clinical outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively with medical staff and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of patient care to meet regulatory standards.
  • Continuously prioritize patient care per evidence-based practice.
  • Adhere to stringent infection prevention protocols.
  • Initiate emergency response measures when needed.
  • Manage patients’ pain using appropriate techniques.
  • Establish trusting relationships with patients and their families, serving as an advocate.
  • Participate in educating patients and families about their condition and care plans.
  • Coordinate discharge planning with the healthcare team.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately to team members based on their qualifications.
  • Provide compassionate support to patients and families in a therapeutic environment.
  • May assist the Surgical Technologist in a scrub role as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor or manager.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Associate degree in Nursing (Bachelor's preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year as a registered nurse.

If you lack a year of registered nurse experience, completion of the Prisma Health Nurse Residency Program or an equivalent program will be accepted. In-house candidates may substitute one year of licensed practical nurse (LPN) experience within the same service line. A nursing diploma with licensure may also be considered in lieu of an Associate degree.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • Current RN compact/multistate license or RN license in the state of practice.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to manage inventory control based on surgeon preferences and instrumentation needs.
  • Capability to mentor new staff and maintain ongoing education.
