As an Underwater Operations Specialist, you will embark on an exceptional career that takes you into the depths of the ocean, where your skills will support vital underwater missions. From salvaging wrecks to aiding in the recovery of astronauts, you will play a crucial role in our operations.

Equipped with advanced diving technology, you will gain expertise in vital tasks ranging from underwater welding to deep-sea rescue missions. Whether you are securing ports, clearing waterways, or working alongside elite Special Operations teams, your proficiency will be key to keeping our naval forces prepared for any challenge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform wreck salvage and underwater repairs.
  • Clear harbors and waterways for safe navigation.
  • Assist in construction and demolition underwater.
  • Conduct search and rescue operations on behalf of military and civilian agencies.
  • Engage in saturation diving and deep-sea operations, potentially living underwater for extended periods.
  • Support and advise Special Operations units during missions.
  • Ensure logistics and security during Expeditionary Warfare efforts.
  • Maintain and inspect ships and submarines as needed.

With our motto being “We Dive the World Over,” you will travel globally and work in various aquatic settings, from challenging, cold waters to warm, crystal-clear oceans.

Training & Advancement

Your journey will begin with rigorous training that tests both your physical endurance and mental fortitude. After completing your initial training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, you will progress through specialized diving courses.

Upon completion of training, you will have opportunities to serve in various capacities, and advanced training can lead to further qualifications as a First Class Diver or Master Diver.

Education Opportunities

There are ample opportunities for professional growth and education, including credits that may contribute towards obtaining a degree through the American Council on Education and utilizing programs like the Navy College Program and Tuition Assistance.

Qualifications & Requirements

No college degree is needed to become an Underwater Operations Specialist, but you must meet specific requirements:

  • Vision must be correctable to 20/25 and must not have color blindness.
  • Minimum ASVAB score: AR+VE=103, MC=51.
  • Pass the physical exam designated for divers.
  • Be 30 years old or younger.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for security clearance.

Strong swimming skills, physical fitness, and the ability to concentrate under pressure are essential. This role is not suitable for those who are claustrophobic.
