Interventional Radiology
Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group, Department of Radiology, is seeking a Nationally Certified Radiology Physician Assistant (RPA) for a Full-Time Interventional Radiology opportunity. While 1 - 3 years of experience in Radiology is preferred, on-the-job training in the clinical and procedural nuances of this specialty will be provided upon hiring. RPAs use state-of-the-art technology, including ultrasound, X-ray / fluoroscopy, computer tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines to both diagnose and treat patients with a variety of ailments, from the routine to the complex and life-threatening. RPAs work under the close supervision of a licensed interventional radiologist. They play a crucial role in the initial evaluation and triage of new IR consults, assist interventional radiologists with invasive and non-invasive procedures, educate patients on upcoming procedures, assist in follow-up after procedures have been completed, evaluate quality of the images, and report findings to the supervising radiologist. Graded autonomy is expected, with many RPAs functioning fairly independently throughout the day after the training period, reporting intermittently to the attending interventional radiologist. Skills required: Must be detail oriented. This is needed for obtaining patient information, as well as for knowing how to position the body, measure accurately IV contrast injections, adjust the machines, and many other tasks that require precision. Work with compassion since many people needing the service are greatly concerned about the process of having the procedure performed, and equally concerned about the outcome and eventual diagnosis. Physical stamina is needed since RPAs stand on their feet many hours every day. This is especially true of those who work in operating rooms assisting radiologists with procedures. Good communication skills are imperative since the RPA works closely with patients who are often stressed about their medical condition and need for the tests that are being conducted. The RPA is entrusted with not only performing or assisting with the procedure, but also with explaining the entire procedure, how it works, what its purpose is, how the patient needs to behave, and all other aspects concerning the procedure. Ability to work both independently and with a team. Ability to interpret basic imaging (which will develop over time working in the department) and lab tests. Compensation & Benefits The compensation range listed is for starting base compensation only and is adjusted based upon years of experience and/or faculty rank: $110,000 - 150,000. This amount does not include variable compensation or extra productivity and is subject to the individual department compensation plans. More information on compensation is discussed with the departments during the recruitment process. Our benefits include: Generous Retirement Contribution Comprehensive Medical/Dental Coverage Competitive Vacation & Sick Days CME Days and Funds Relocation Assistance (if applicable) Paid Malpractice Insurance Paid Life Insurance Loan Repayment/State & Federal (If eligible) For more information on Loan Forgiveness, please click on the links below: Public Service Loan Forgiveness We are a California Employer - Please note that a California residency is required upon start date.
