Position Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Ruby on Rails Developer to support enterprise web application development for a major academic medical institution in Dallas, TX. The selected candidate will work closely with internal teams on the modernization, enhancement, and maintenance of critical Ruby on Rails-based systems.

The ideal candidate is an experienced full-stack developer with deep Ruby on Rails expertise, familiarity with Vue.js, and the ability to contribute across the application lifecycle-from design and development to deployment and support.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain Ruby on Rails applications (Rails 5-7) using clean MVC architecture and RESTful principles.
  • Build responsive and accessible user interfaces using HTML5, CSS3 (Sass), JavaScript, and Vue.js.
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries for PostgreSQL and MySQL databases; manage schema migrations.
  • Implement and manage background processing using Sidekiq and caching with Redis.
  • Integrate authentication and authorization systems using tools like Devise, Pundit, CanCan, and Rolify.
  • Collaborate with QA and DevOps to implement CI/CD workflows using GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.
  • Conduct code reviews, write unit tests using RSpec or Minitest, and maintain test coverage with factory_bot.
  • Interoperate with legacy systems including .NET applications, MS SQL Server, and REDCap.
  • Ensure adherence to accessibility standards, security policies, and compliance with healthcare regulations.

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience developing full-stack web applications with Ruby on Rails.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL (PostgreSQL and MySQL).
  • Hands-on experience with Vue.js or other modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Strong experience with Git, CI/CD tools, and testing frameworks (RSpec/Minitest).
  • Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in academic, healthcare, or public sector domains.
  • Familiarity with REDCap, legacy .NET systems, and MS SQL Server.
  • Prior experience in environments governed by regulatory compliance (e.g., HIPAA).
