Why does the job exist?

The Supervisor, Family Assistance Program will:
  • Provide timely and appropriate customer services in determining client's eligibility;
  • Provide effective leadership, problem resolution, and training to Income Support Division (ISD) staff ensuring the office follows the County Plan of Operations in meeting performance goals of timeliness, accuracy, and customer service in accordance with federal/state standards and regulations as well as those outlined in the state and county corrective action plans and initiatives.
How does it get done?

The Supervisor, Family Assistance Program is responsible for:
  • Advancing department/division goals for client self-sufficiency by promoting client placement and maintaining positive relationships with work contractors and other community entities;
  • Effectively developing employees by coaching and counseling employees using current accepted management practices to include the Health Care Authority (HCA) Code of Conduct and the County Plan of Operations.
Who are the customers?
  • Income Support Division (ISD) Family Assistance Analysts (FAA)and Senior Family Assistant Analysts.
Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate has:
  • Supervisory experience;
  • Experience in eligibility determination, interviewing clients and assessing income potential based on language and vocational skills, education level, training needs and employment history.


Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in any field and two (2) years of experience in unemployment insurance claims and/or tax, accounting, auditing, finance, budgeting, eligibility determination/interviewing, clerical work, customer service, data entry, and/or interviewing in a public welfare or social welfare program. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience. One (1) year of supervisory experience may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Must obtain a Defensive driving certification.

Employment is subject to a pre-employment criminal background investigation and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Office Setting, exposure to VDT, extensive personal computer and phone usage.
