The Electric Transmission Line Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in design projects for high-voltage overhead and underground systems for some of the largest utilities nationwide. You will utilize established NESC, ASCE, ACI, and other relevant standards in your work on infrastructure projects, voltage conversions, and capacity expansions.

In this role, you will conduct engineering analyses, prepare bidding documents, develop plans and specifications, and create material procurement and construction documents. You will focus on executing technical tasks independently using tools like PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE while contributing to quality control processes. Collaboration with a multi-person Leidos team, as well as supporting project planning, environmental, permitting, and construction management personnel, will also be part of your responsibilities.

Work Locations: Ideal candidates are encouraged to apply from Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey, as hybrid schedules are available. Fully REMOTE positions are also open for qualified candidates. Relocation assistance will be provided for those able to move within a commutable distance to Walled Lake, MI, or Cranberry Township, PA.

The Challenge:

• Execute technical design and engineering tasks related to high-voltage transmission lines, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
• Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications, and calculations under the guidance of Lead Engineers or Project Managers.
• Perform engineering analyses, including PLS-CADD modeling and structure loading calculations.
• Contribute to team continuous improvement goals by learning and applying new technical tools, AI, and automation platforms.
• Actively communicate and coordinate project progress with the Project Manager (PM) to maintain awareness of project schedule and budget.
• Maintain strong technical proficiency in industry-standard software and Leidos design processes.

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering preferred, or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in electric utility transmission system design.
• Proficiency in using PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE.
• Effective teamwork skills with the ability to work independently.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills for effective collaboration across teams.
• Willingness to work in client offices and periodic travel may be required.

Desired Experience:

• Experience with TOWER is a plus.
• EIT or PE certification is desirable.
• Knowledge of LPILE or FAD, Mathcad, AutoCAD or MicroStation, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a plus.
