Position Summary:
The Director of Project Management Excellence plays a crucial leadership role in enhancing the quality and consistency of JLA's project management across all project phases. This position is vital for achieving high standards and project success within the firm. Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating closely with the Director of Architectural Operations to define, assess, and enhance project management goals, processes, and standards.
- Offering structured support to Project Managers, ensuring a unified project management approach and addressing challenges proactively.
- Providing ongoing mentoring and guidance to all JLA team members, particularly focusing on Project Managers.
This role is integral to JLA's Operational Leadership Team, which comprises the President, Director of Architectural Operations, Director of Quality Control, Director of Design, Office Directors, Director of Team Development, Director of Business Development, and Director of Marketing. The team operates under a model of Dynamic Subordination, fostering continuous improvement throughout the organization.
The Director of Project Management Excellence will report to the Director of Architectural Operations and will have significant autonomy in prioritizing and executing responsibilities. With a strong emphasis on collaboration, this role will work closely with the Operations Team and Project Managers.
Although this position has no direct reports, the Director will play a key advisory role to team members with varying degrees of experience. Periodic travel to all JLA offices may be necessary. The expected workload is between 43-45 hours per week, with flexibility for remote work when suitable.
Specific Functions & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Director of Architectural Operations to develop firm-wide goals related to project management.
- Evaluate and enhance project management processes to align with organizational objectives.
- Lead the Project Manager Influence Group to gather input and build consensus on project management standards.
- Assist Project Managers with creating projects in JLA's network and Ajera platform.
- Guide PMs in work planning, scheduling, and Proposal/Agreement processes.
- Conduct structured check-ins with Project Managers to:
- Provide guidance and advice on project, client, and team management issues.
- Support project Work Plans and Schedules.
- Monitor project progress against expectations and ensure timely QA/QC reviews.
- Facilitate best practices in project management and usage of JLA's standards.
- Identify and address unique project challenges as they arise.
- Train and coach PMs in client and team management.
- Audit Project Team Meetings and Site Observations periodically.
- Participate in Team Scheduling Meetings to share insights and strategize workload distribution.
- Assist in the transition of Project Managers for ongoing projects.
- Develop professional development tracks for aspiring Project Managers.
- Contribute to the onboarding and training of new Project Managers.
- Collaborate with the Operational Leadership Team on various initiatives.
- Support the Business Development and Marketing Teams with their efforts as required.
- Contribute to other administrative and operational responsibilities as needed.
