Lead Automation and Controls Engineer

Join Amazon, a leader in logistics and technology, as we continue to innovate and transform our supply chain. We are looking for a Lead Automation and Controls Engineer to support our dynamic engineering team in developing advanced solutions that enhance our delivery stations.
In this role, you will innovate current processes, equipment, and specifications to implement effective process improvements focusing on AB PLC/HMI and vision systems development. As a key contributor to our agile systems development life cycle, you will be involved in design, architecture, development, documentation, testing, and operations, driving the evolution of our last-mile business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement advanced control systems utilizing Allen Bradley PLCs and CODESYS.
- Develop hardware and firmware interfaces along with IoT solutions.
- Create and maintain PLC, IPC, HMI software, and vision systems.
- Establish electrical and control design standards throughout the organization.
- Implement system health monitoring and self-healing automation features.
Project Leadership:
- Manage multiple high-visibility projects effectively and simultaneously.
- Lead technical design reviews for control systems and simulations.
- Collaborate with global design teams and vendors on project implementations.
- Drive process improvements and facilitate technical implementations across teams.
- Review, assess, and integrate new material handling equipment (MHE) technologies.
Technical Skills Required:
- Proficient in industrial networks (Ethernet, safety over Ethernet IP).
- Expertise in material handling control systems.
- Familiarity with IPCs and barcode scanning technologies.
- Experience with advanced technology applications in automation.
- Knowledge in conveyor hardware integration.
This role requires hands-on experience and strong communication skills to work effectively with vendors, engineers, and project teams. You will lead design efforts, troubleshoot code, demonstrate proof-of-concepts, and manage stakeholder expectations to deliver innovative solutions.
Basic Qualifications:
- Over 2 years of experience in designing or architecting new and existing systems, focusing on reliability and scalability.
- Proven experience in leading the design, build, and deployment of complex software solutions.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of industrial controls and automation experience.
- 2+ years in developing control strategies with CODESYS.
- Experience with Functional Safety standards (IEC 62061, IEC 13849, or IEC 61508).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Deep understanding of software/hardware development life cycles, including coding standards, code review processes, source control management, testing, and operations.
- A history of leading roles in delivering complex software infrastructures to customers.
