Transport Aide, Per Diem

Transport Aide moves patients from and within the Emergency Care Center to patient care areas, including Urgent Care Center, Radiology and inpatient units by transport vehicle in a safe and efficient manner, using proper body mechanics according to the age specific needs of the patients. Provides other services that support the delivery of care to the patients.
Responsibilities include:
- Reporting to area and charge nurse as assigned
- Picking up and delivering patients using transport vehicle, according to age specific needs of the patient
- Transporting patients to and from locations within inpatient, outpatient or emergency areas or diagnostic, therapeutic or research procedures
- Observing patients on stretchers and assisting with bathroom needs
- Communicating with charge nurse to receive assignment and/or patient transport information
- Cleaning transport vehicles and notifying supervisor of needed repairs
- Receiving and delivering charts, requisitions, various reports and medical records; obtaining signatures on forms as required
- Delivering personal belongings of patients
- Receiving and delivering supplies, specimens, medications and equipment when requested
- Logging in requests for patient transports and totaling the number of trips at the end of each shift
- Giving on the job training to new employees as assigned
- Transporting the deceased to the morgue as assigned
- Assisting with stocking and distribution of supplies and equipment when required
- Maintaining a professional appearance by conforming to dress code
- Preparing stretchers for use by cleaning with the appropriate solution and placing clean linen on stretcher
- Keeping work station clean and orderly
- Following and performing all related unit specific policies and procedures
- Utilizing job and unit specific equipment as required
- Demonstrating behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise)
- Performing all other related job duties as assigned
Experience generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience. High School diploma is strongly preferred.
Skills include:
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure
- Ability to understand and follow instructions
- Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment
- Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications
Credentials required include American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

- Job function requires extended standing or walking
- Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds
- Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices
- Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers
Environmental Conditions:
- Jobs in this group are required to function in a fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations
- Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public
- Function is subject to inside environmental conditions, with occasional outdoor exposures
- Exposure to various environments such as: communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment
- May also be exposed to needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-Ray, chemical exposures and other potential hazards
- Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environment
