We are seeking Distribution Engineers who are enthusiastic about electric utility design engineering. We are looking for dedicated individuals who ensure that every project, no matter the complexity, meets exceptional quality standards. In this role, you will work directly with clients to uphold Leidos' reputation for excellence. Expect to enhance your expertise in key areas, including NESC compliance, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, and Field Data Collection.

Travel:

This position allows for remote work, but candidates must be able to commute to our Michigan support areas as needed to provide on-site assistance to local utility customers. In-person meetings and assignments throughout the Michigan customer territory will be required on an as-needed basis.

As a Distribution Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting design engineering for electric utility clients.
  • Creating work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects using customer GIS and WMS systems.
  • Overseeing the scope, schedule, and budget for assigned projects.
  • Utilizing design tools such as Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, and DDS.
  • Collaborating with clients to review engineering design packages.
  • Performing planning, functional tasks, and customer follow-ups.
  • Analyzing the scope of work and ensuring adherence to schedules while prioritizing client needs.
  • Implementing continuous improvements to drive efficiency and maintain high-quality design deliverables.
  • Gaining experience in coordinating with various utilities and managing complex design packages for intricate projects.
  • Working in both office and field settings to collect essential data for project development.

What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements):

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution. Relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Experience with an electric utility or consulting firm in design engineering for electric distribution.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
  • Familiarity with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, and protective device coordination.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

You Might Also Have Proficiency with:

  • Cost estimation, BOM development, and CIAC calculations.
  • MicroStation for Electrical Distribution design.
  • Work management and job estimating software.
  • CAD tools.
