QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent. Three years experience in vehicle maintenance. Ability to diagnose the cause of operating defects in automotive equipment and to make effective repairs. Considerable knowledge of the tools and equipment used for diesel engine repairs. Some knowledge of record keeping and reporting techniques. Preferred minimum of four current ASE certifications.

REPORTS TO: Mechanic Foreman and/or Supervisor

JOB GOAL: To ensure the safe transportation of children and equipment for Cumberland County Schools by repairing and maintaining the operating condition of automotive equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Diagnoses and repairs a variety of buses, cars, and other transportation equipment.

Repairs and overhauls specialized equipment.

Participates in the screening and selection of garage employees.

Tests and inspects completed work of other mechanics to assure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Performs a variety of high skilled automotive repair tasks.

Maintains some portion of record keeping and reporting necessary to the transportation program.

Possesses the ability to be available for after-hours emergencies on-call with a service vehicle.

Attends and successfully completes all training activities as required to improve ability and knowledge in performance of work duties.

Serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven, and valuing fairness.

Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to perform heavy lifting exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required.

Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.

Must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Must possess the ability to handle complex assignments with little or no assistance and possess strong ability to adapt to changing technology and priorities.

Must obtain North Carolina School Bus Inspection Certification.
