Description

The Digital Modernization Sector at Leidos is seeking an experienced Lead Unix Systems Engineer to deliver systems engineering, administration, and operational support for the Unix/Linux environment. This is an exceptional opportunity to utilize your Linux expertise in a dynamic hybrid work setting (1-2 days onsite) at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) office in Washington, D.C. You will be responsible for maintaining, hardening, troubleshooting, and optimizing Linux-based systems across multiple domains.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux-based servers and systems (RedHat).
  • Manage system performance, monitoring, backups, and troubleshooting with precision.
  • Ensure robust system security by adhering to CIS recommended baselines and regularly applying necessary patches and updates.
  • Collaborate effectively with other operations teams to configure environments and resolve system-related issues.
  • Provide installation and support for third-party applications.
  • Quickly monitor and address hardware, software, and networking issues.
  • Execute routine system upgrades, patching, and security compliance checks.
  • Deliver troubleshooting and technical support for escalated issues.
  • Resolve incidents and tasks promptly as assigned.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies regarding critical outages or incidents.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting methodologies for internal records.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field with 8-12 years of experience OR a Master's degree with 6-10 years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Proven skills relevant to the primary responsibilities described above.
  • Solid understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, VPN).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Expertise in shell scripting (Bash, Python) and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with version control tools like Git.
  • Expertise in Red Hat Satellite.
  • Understanding of system security best practices and automation tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and remarkable attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently complete technical projects successfully.
  • Exceptional problem-solving capabilities, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.
  • Candidate must fulfill DoD IAT Level 2 Certification requirements (currently Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, GSEC, or SSCP).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC-2).
  • CompTIA Linux+ Certification.
