Maintenance Technician

  • Develops and coordinates the implementation and administration of a schedule of planned, preventive, and predictive maintenance for equipment, machinery, tools or buildings.
  • Reviews manufacturer's service manuals, and records of maintenance problems to determine optimum frequency of preventive maintenance (PM).
  • Studies production and operation schedules and confers with other staff and other supervisors to determine when planned maintenance will least interfere with the operation of the establishment.
  • Estimates costs of personnel, parts, and supplies to be used during scheduled maintenance.
  • Inspection, maintenance, repair, and optimization of machine tools to ensure their efficient and safe operation.
  • Work closely with production teams to minimize downtime and maximize the productivity of machine tools.

Responsibilities:

Troubleshooting:
  1. Identify and diagnose malfunctions or operational problems.
  2. Analyze technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams to pinpoint issues.
  3. Implement corrective actions to resolve problems efficiently.
  4. Develops and maintains a functional computerized preventive maintenance program, utilizing industry standards.
  5. Oversees all facets of the program, ensuring compliance with state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations.
  6. Utilizes computerized systems to input PM orders and track status and/or completion.
  7. Develops and maintains required parts list per each piece of equipment.
  8. Coordinates/streamlines installation and/or repairs of equipment using computerized system.
  9. Develops and maintains reports including efficiency reports relating to hours and dollars, Area PM percentage, deferred PM reports, and equipment renewal/replacement reports.
  10. Develops and maintains a task code library, adding new tasks as needed.
  11. Performs random checks of PM for equipment handled by external contractors to ensure reliability and quality of work.
  12. Independently works with managers in coordinating and scheduling maintenance programs in various areas of the university.
  13. Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects to assist in accomplishment of established goals.
  14. Maintains records of planned and completed maintenance.
  15. May develop and coordinate plans for reconstruction or installation of new equipment, machinery, or buildings.
  16. Motivate, implement, and drive continuous improvement activities through Manufacturing initiatives.
  17. Ensure efficient collaboration and coordination between relevant departments and adhere to and enforce company policies and procedures.
  18. General electrical and/or mechanical experience
    Repair or replace defective equipment parts.
  19. Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines run smoothly and operate efficiently.
  20. Perform basic repairs and maintenance tasks, including but not limited to:
    o Plumbing repairs (e.g., fixing leaks, unclogging drains)
    o Electrical repairs (e.g., replacing light fixtures, repairing outlets)
    o HVAC maintenance (e.g., filter replacement, troubleshooting)
    o Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inventory, and equipment maintenance logs.
  21. Assist in coordinating and overseeing contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and projects.
  22. Install, maintain, and repair equipment, referring to manuals, schematics, blueprints, and other relevant documentation.
  23. Troubleshoot equipment issues, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic, making all necessary corrections and returning the equipment to optimum condition in a cost effective and timely manner.
  24. Overtime or weekends may be required.
Qualifications:
  1. Experience operating a saw (1-3 years preferred)
  2. Must have excellent communication skills and be able to follow written and verbal instructions
  3. Must be able to understand Method Instructions.
  4. Must be able to operate machine, robot welder and use hand and small power tools (hand pliers, hand screwdrivers, Allen wrenches and screw gun).

Essential Skills and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in machine tool maintenance
or a related field is preferred. (Millwright)
Proven experience as a machine tool maintenance technician or similar role.
Proficiency in reading technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Knowledge of various types of machine tools and their components.
Familiarity with precision measuring instruments.
Welding, machining, and fabrication skills.
Understanding of safety regulations and practices.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs.
