Job Description:
MHCGM's Child and Adolescent department, an experienced, dedicated, and family-focused practice, is seeking candidates for a Family Peer Support Specialist. Using your own lived experiences with navigating childhood systems, you will build meaningful relationships that empower children and caregivers to achieve their personal goals. In this role, you will support families by offering empathy, encouragement, and practical guidance. You will play an essential role in supporting our families in building both internal strengths and external resources to best support their long-term success.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Working with several multi-disciplinary teams which include clinicians, nurse practitioners, case managers, and more to support patients in achieving treatment goals and objectives
- Applying stages of change and motivational interviewing skills to meet individuals wherever they are in their journey
- Offer direct, one-on-one support to families and caregivers, leveraging personal experience to provide hope and understanding.
- Coach family members on self-advocacy skills, communication and other strategies to help them participate more effectively in their child's care plans.
- Assist families in navigating complex service systems their child may be involved with, such as school and special education, health care, child protection, developmental disabilities.
- Provide information, referrals and support to help families access necessary community resources and local support groups
- Coordinate and participate in advocacy activities to support families of children with special needs.
- Attending and actively participate in treatment team meetings and individual and group supervisions
- Communicating effectively with peers, managers, and support staff
- Maintaining and completing all documentation that is required in a timely manner through electronic medical record system
- Complying with regulatory confidentiality requirements as outlined in HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2
- Providing support that is sensitive to diverse cultures, languages, and recovery models
- Possessing a teamwork ethic and behaving in a manner that aligns with high standards of ethical practice
Qualifications: Candidate must possess a valid driver's license, an automobile with liability insurance, preferred certification in Peer support or CRSW but not required
