Cooperstown Jr Sr High School Modified Football Head Coach
Cooperstown Central School (CCS) offers a comprehensive athletic program, competing in Section III's Center State Conference. The modified football program focuses on teaching fundamental skills, promoting teamwork, and providing student-athletes with a positive and developmentally appropriate introduction to the sport.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Team Development
- Plan and lead practices designed to teach football fundamentals, age-appropriate techniques, and safe play.
- Develop basic offensive and defensive systems aligned with the overall football program's philosophy.
- Foster a positive and encouraging team culture focused on sportsmanship, teamwork, confidence-building, and academic responsibility.
- Evaluate players and provide clear, supportive feedback to promote ongoing skill development.
- Conduct structured practices that emphasize learning, participation, and skill progression.
- Prepare game plans appropriate for modified-level competition.
- Make safe, developmentally appropriate real-time adjustments during games.
- Maintain knowledge of football rules, safety protocols, and modified-level guidelines.
- Provide individualized coaching to help young athletes improve fundamentals and understanding of the game.
- Emphasize safe tackling techniques, conditioning, and injury prevention.
- Support student-athletes in developing teamwork, confidence, and positive personal habits on and off the field.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director on scheduling, equipment needs, and program logistics.
- Ensure compliance with CCS athletic policies, NYSPHSAA regulations, and all required safety protocols.
- Communicate clearly with parents, school staff, and the community regarding expectations and program updates.
- Work with and supervise assistant coaches to ensure consistent instruction across the program.
- Must meet all New York State coaching certification requirements, including First Aid, CPR, and Concussion Management training.
- Previous experience working with youth or modified-level athletes preferred.
