Marketing & Business Development Specialist – Inpatient Detox Services

Location:

Heights University Hospital (formerly Christ Hospital), Jersey City, NJ

Reports To:

Executive Director, Behavioral Health & Addiction Services

Position Summary:

The Marketing & Business Development Specialist for Inpatient Detox Services is responsible for driving referral growth, increasing patient volumes, and strengthening relationships with key partners to expand the hospital’s ASAM Level 4.0 inpatient medical detox program. This role will develop and execute targeted outreach strategies to referral sources, including emergency departments, community providers, residential treatment programs, outpatient practices, and social service agencies, with the goal of positioning Heights University Hospital as the preferred detox facility in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Development & Referral Growth

  • Identify, cultivate, and maintain strong relationships with referral sources (e.g., outpatient SUD providers, emergency departments, residential rehab programs, community health clinics, FQHCs, shelters, first responders).
  • Act as the primary liaison for external partners, ensuring smooth referral pathways and timely communication.
  • Proactively generate new business opportunities, including outreach to underdeveloped or out-of-state markets.
  • Monitor referral trends and provide regular reports on referral source activity and growth opportunities.

Marketing Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and implement a marketing plan focused on increasing awareness and patient admissions to the detox program.
  • Collaborate with internal marketing teams to produce promotional materials, digital campaigns, and educational content tailored to community partners.
  • Coordinate tours, presentations, and informational sessions for referral partners and community stakeholders.
  • Attend and represent the hospital at relevant industry events, conferences, and community meetings.

Data Analysis & Performance Tracking

  • Track and analyze referral volume, conversion rates, and ROI from outreach efforts.
  • Provide monthly performance reports with actionable insights to leadership.
  • Adjust marketing strategies based on performance metrics and competitive landscape analysis.

Internal Collaboration

  • Work closely with admissions, behavioral health, and detox program leadership to ensure seamless intake processes and high-quality patient experiences.
  • Partner with hospital leadership to align outreach efforts with system-wide behavioral health initiatives and growth strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in healthcare marketing, sales, or business development (behavioral health, addiction treatment, or hospital setting strongly preferred).
  • Proven track record of growing referral networks and increasing patient volumes.
  • Strong knowledge of substance use disorder treatment continuum (detox, residential, outpatient).
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally to meet with referral sources and attend community events.
