General Summary:

Unum is expanding its team of experienced Physicians across various specialties including Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Occupational Medicine, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

This role involves providing expert medical analysis of claims files or underwriting applications across Unum's US product lines. As a Medical Consultant, you will deliver high-quality, timely, and efficient medical consultative services to our Benefits Center, adhering to regulatory standards and internal guidelines while ensuring ethical practices are followed. You will engage collaboratively with business partners, healthcare providers, and specialized resources to enhance customer service.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide prompt, clear medical insights and opinions, supported by thorough forensic analysis.

• Collaborate with fellow medical consultants to ensure comprehensive patient assessments.

• Leverage medical expertise to assess functional capacities by reviewing medical data related to impairments.

• Educate others on relevant medical topics in an engaging and understandable manner.

• Communicate with insured's healthcare providers to gather essential medical information.

• Recommend referrals for second opinion reviews in adherence to guidelines and best practices.

• Manage a high volume of work efficiently, maintaining strong turnaround times and a sense of urgency.

• Contribute positively to group tasks and overall organizational success.

• Welcome and act on feedback for continuous improvement.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Specifications:

• Professional Degree (MD, DO, PhD, PsyD)

• Active, unrestricted US medical license

• Board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Emergency Medicine, or Occupational Medicine preferred

• A minimum of five years of clinical experience in your medical specialty

• Exceptional teamwork and collaboration skills in a fast-paced corporate setting

• Ability to mentor and provide constructive feedback effectively

The salary range for this position is $133,500.00 to $274,100.00, based on skill, geographical location, and experience.
