Medical Laboratory Scientist Job Details

• Location: Upper Marlboro, Maryland 20774
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: January 5, 2026
• Shift: 5x8-hour evening shifts (15:30 - 00:00); flexibility for rotating day/evening or evening/night shifts
• Hours per Week: 40
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1640 - $1770
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend may be required
• Holidays: As scheduled
• On-Call: Not required
• Floating: May be required within the laboratory department

Medical Laboratory Scientist Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
• Active Maryland or Compact state medical laboratory license required
• ASCP certification required; ASCP-MLS and BLS preferred
• Proficiency with laboratory equipment and clinical instrumentation
• Strong independent work skills and hands-on laboratory procedures experience
• Epic charting system experience preferred
• Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
• Ability to float within the hospital laboratory as needed
• Two satisfactory professional references from recent employers
• Travelers must reside at least 50 miles from the facility

Medical Laboratory Scientist Responsibilities

• Perform a wide range of laboratory tests and procedures: blood banking, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and molecular diagnostics
• Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment
• Accurately accession, process, and analyze specimens for patients of all ages
• Ensure laboratory quality assurance and control standards are met
• Report and interpret clinical test results promptly
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver excellent patient care
• Maintain compliance with safety and regulatory requirements
• Participate in orientation and ongoing laboratory training
