Introduction to the Role and the Practice

Join our collaborative General Surgery team at Centra Health, serving patients across Bedford Memorial Hospital and Lynchburg General Hospital. Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) play a vital role in patient care-managing both new and established visits, rounding in the hospital, and supporting surgical patients throughout their continuum of care.
APPs work closely with physicians and are supported by dedicated nursing staff, fostering efficiency, continuity of care, and strong patient relationships. At Bedford Memorial Hospital, we're proud of our warm culture and family-friendly community. Meanwhile, Lynchburg General Hospital provides a dynamic, fast-paced surgical environment where APPs gain exposure to a wide variety of cases and collaborate with a broad range of specialties. Together, these settings offer a balanced and rewarding practice.

Centra Medical Group (CMG) is a comprehensive network of nearly 600 employed providers within Centra Health. Centra Health services a population of 600,000 community members with 70 different outpatient and specialty practices. Centra offers primary care and specialty services across Central and Southern Virginia-from Lynchburg to Danville, Farmville, Moneta, and Bedford. CMG includes family practices, specialists, and surgeons in fields such as cardiology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, urology, and more.
CMG is also home to the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency, a training program for future family physicians, many of whom hold academic appointments with institutions like UVA, VCU, VCOM, and Liberty University.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate daily with a core team of APPs, surgeons, and other specialties
  • Work with Cerner EMR for seamless documentation
  • Enjoy variable day shifts with rotating weekend/holiday coverage
  • Have the opportunity to assist in operating room
  • Evaluate patients in clinic for post-op and acute visits
  • Round, consult, discharge, and manage inpatient care
  • Order and interpret diagnostic evaluations and therapies
  • Coordinate care with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team
  • Equal call rotation with the general surgery APP team each call rotation is 5 days
  • Call coverage is shared among APPs in both Lynchburg and Bedford, providing team-based flexibility.
  • Flexible schedules with the option of 4x10s available.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program, and Masters of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN)
  • Current licensure by the Virginia State Board of Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive authority. Maintains BLS and ACLS Certifications. Hold a current, active license as a registered nurse in Virginia or hold a current multistate licensure privilege as a registered nurse. Nationally recognized certification in field of specialization
