JOB DUTIES:

This position is located in the Float Pool Unit of the Nursing Services Section of Leahi Hospital. Leahi Hospital is located on the island of Oahu, serving as the Regional Center, which also includes Maluhia. It is one of nine (9) facilities within the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. The function of the Float Pool Unit is to provide nursing services for patients in all units in accordance with the physicians' instructions. The Per Diem Nurse coordinates nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with other staff and departments in maintaining standards of nursing care; follows established policies, procedures or specific instructions.

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

EDUCATION: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. While not required, graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.

EXPERIENCE: One year of professional nursing work experience, where the employee independently provided nursing care to patients in a clinic, hospital, or institution.

CERTIFICATION: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon employment. For some positions Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required.

LICENSURE: Possession of a current license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.

Your letter requesting the Administrative Review must include: 1) The job title(s) and recruitment number(s), 2) the specific reason(s) you are requesting the review noting if there is statute or rule violation, and 3) any additional information you want to submit to substantiate your request. If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection. If you do not agree with the Administrative Review, you may file a Formal Compliant and then, if you are still not satisfied, you can appeal to the HHSC Merit Appeals Board.
