Overview

A prominent luxury resort in the Caribbean is seeking a highly skilled Director of Engineering to lead its engineering, maintenance, and sustainability functions. This confidential search is ideal for a seasoned professional with strong experience managing engineering operations in island or remote hospitality settings.

The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong operational planning abilities, and a hands-on leadership style to ensure all facilities, utilities, and infrastructure are running optimally. A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset and previous island resort experience are key to thriving in this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all engineering and maintenance operations across guest villas, public spaces, and back-of-house areas
  • Oversee the performance and reliability of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, water, and waste systems
  • Implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment lifespan
  • Drive sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives aligned with resort goals
  • Manage, train, and mentor the engineering and maintenance team, emphasizing safety and accountability
  • Work closely with contractors, vendors, and local regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with codes and standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, and ongoing projects
  • Develop and oversee operational budgets, capital improvement plans, and expense forecasts
  • Provide strategic support for long-term infrastructure planning and upgrades
  • Uphold safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance across all engineering operations
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years in an engineering leadership role within a luxury island resort or remote hospitality setting
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and civil systems
  • Demonstrated success managing large-scale facility operations and preventive maintenance programs
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices and energy-saving initiatives
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to build and motivate diverse teams
  • Strong financial and analytical abilities, including budgeting and CAPEX planning
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Technical degree or engineering certification strongly preferred
Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive annual salary up to USD 85,000 based on experience
