Director of Construction

Supervises: Project Managers (Construction & Repair), Construction Staff, and Volunteer Crew Leads
Performance Summary:
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne's Director of Construction oversees all aspects of the construction and repair program. Our construction team utilizes volunteer labor, hires subcontractors, and purchases and solicits donated materials to provide maximum community involvement to produce quality homes for Habitat families in a safe, timely, and affordable manner.
The ideal candidate for this position has extensive construction knowledge and experience. The Director of Construction must be highly organized, flexible, and adaptable, with excellent interpersonal skills to work alongside Habitat team members and diverse groups of individuals, from Future Homeowners and volunteers to subcontractors and suppliers. The ideal candidate must display principles and qualities reflecting Habitat's mission and core values: Faithful, Thoughtful, Sustainable, Collaborative, and Transformative.
Responsibilities:
Lead, Manage, and Hold People Accountable
- Responsible for leading and managing Project Managers, construction team members, volunteer crew leads, Future Homeowners, and volunteers, as well as collaborating, teaching, and holding all parties accountable to established procedures and best practices
- Lead all construction staff and ensure all job requirements are met
- Adoption of, and adherence to, the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS)
- Facilitate quarterly leadership meetings and ensure alignment with EOS Scorecard and Rocks
- Update department dashboard with key measurables and provide reports to the board of directors as needed
- Work with the board and Habitat leadership to develop annual strategic initiatives and construction work schedules
- Work closely with the Development Team to create, implement and execute volunteer training program, and any necessary small and large group activities (Panel Builds, Student Builds, etc.)
- Ensure all Habitat for Humanity International and affiliate policies, procedures, and guidelines are followed by all
- Manage Critical Repair Program strategy and staffing structure
- Promote dignity and hope with Future Homeowners as they complete their sweat equity by collaborating with other Habitat team members to ensure each is productively involved with the construction process
- Develop yearly budgets and schedules to ensure the success of Habitat's strategic plan
- Oversee planning, budgeting, and execution of the home repair program alongside new construction projects.
- Annually, identify, request, and acquire material and labor gift-in-kind donation opportunities
- Develop partnerships for donated labor and materials specific to repairs.
- Support the Grant Team to ensure proper execution and financial and project reporting
- Seek out land opportunities and strategic development partnerships to ensure 2-3 year inventory for future homes
- Collaborate with Project Manager(s) to develop and maintain all construction standards and house designs, ensuring code compliance
- Administer proper safety standards and develop a policy to ensure that work meets safety standards, maintains OSHA compliance, and meets all code standards
- Implement safety and quality standards tailored to repair work, ensuring compliance with OSHA and local codes
- Renew contractor's license annually
- Attend Habitat special events, home dedications, and conferences as required
- Continue professional education by attending seminars that lead to advanced certification and compliance
- Perform all other duties not listed as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Residential Contractor's license
- OSHA 10 and/or competent person certification
- At least 5 years' experience in new home construction, including framing, siding, and interior trim
- Hands-on field experience with residential construction and remodeling is a must
- Minimum 7 years of construction project management and leadership experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and Excel
- Experience with project management software like BuilderTrend
- Experience with land development and home/lot acquisition
- Knowledge of the local municipalities' permitting, zoning, and variance processes
- Ability to set and balance priorities and take initiative

- Must successfully complete a 50-pound lift test administered by an Occupational Health Clinic. The lift test involves lifting a 50-pound object from floor level to overhead height and returning it to the starting position safely, repeated three times.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity for tablet and computer use.
- Able to utilize the telephone to communicate with others, inside and outside of an office environment.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to move about rough terrain at site locations.
- Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
