- Verify patient identity and ensure all required instruments/equipment are available
- Maintain aseptic technique and support infection prevention standards
- Apply knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology
- Anticipate surgeon needs and assist throughout surgical procedures
- Perform and document accurate counts (sponges, sharps, instruments)
- Properly label medications and specimens on the sterile field
- Participate in "Time Out" procedures
- Demonstrate knowledge of sterilization and instrument processing
- Assist with training students and new staff
- Cross-train within Perioperative Services as needed
Completion of an accredited program and obtain certification within 18 months of program completion or within 6 months of hire.
Surgical Tech experience in a healthcare facility on/before Oct 1, 2023 (with verifiable proof).
Completion of military Surgical Technology training.
Designation by facility as competent based on specialized training or related experience.
Additional Requirement:
- BLS certification (required)
