Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Must-Have: Must be able to perform vaginal exams. Experience with scalp electrodes, circulating C-sections, newborn transitions, assisting anesthesiology, IV starts, blood draws, APGAR assignments, postpartum hemorrhage control, epidurals, and amnio infusion is required. Spanish speaking is preferred. Experience with spinning babies is preferred. RNs are required to titrate magnesium, Pitocin, insulin, and blood. Description: The unit has 9 labor and delivery beds. There are 2 operating room suites for C-sections. The unit has 7 triage beds. On average, there are 9 births per day and approximately 250 per month. The unit aims to follow AWHONN guidelines for patient ratios, typically 1:1 or 1:2. Common diagnoses include patients who are 28 weeks and above with conditions such as hypertension. Approximately 7-10% of patients may have no prenatal care. The unit has a high percentage of Spanish-speaking patients. OB and neonatology specialists are available in-house 24/7. Respiratory equipment such as BVM for neonates and T-Piece resuscitators is available. Charge nurses are present on each shift. OB technicians assist in the unit. There are telemetry monitors on the unit; however, OB RNs do not need to interpret telemetry readings. The electronic fetal monitoring system used is CPN Centricity. Weekend requirements include 3 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule. Holidays typically require 2 out of 3 holidays, including the eve and day of the holiday. Low census on-call may be required. Floating may be required to NICU, pediatrics, women's services, and other departments with appropriate patient assignments. L&D nurses may be assigned to care for antepartum patients and must be prepared to care for a baby for two hours after delivery. Hospital scrubs will be provided. Cancellation policy allows for the cancellation of equivalent hours to the weekly guaranteed hours for the assignment. The charting system utilized is EPIC. BSN is not required. The trauma level is 2. The care setting is acute.
