Job Location: Mooresville, NCJob Summary:
The role is responsible for evaluating design documents and construction plans to ensure they can be built efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively. This position bridges the gap between design and construction by identifying potential issues, recommending improvements, and optimizing construction methodologies.
This is a long-term contract position. The client requests the individual to be onsite. Depending on workload, there may be a possibility of 1 day remote.
Key Responsibilities:
- Navigate the models to identify design issues inside the Revit platform and be the liaison between engineering and construction contractor.
- Design Review & Constructability Assessment:
- Conduct thorough technical reviews of architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) drawings.
- Assess design documents for completeness, coordination, and clarity with a focus on buildability.
- Highlight and document any inconsistencies, inter-disciplinary clashes, or ambiguous details that may cause delays during construction.
- Constructability Planning & Analysis:
- Evaluate proposed construction methods, sequences, and technologies to identify opportunities for optimization.
- Analyze the impact of design choices on construction access, equipment use, and material logistics.
- Provide early input during schematic design and design development to guide efficient detailing and material selections.
- Leverage Technology & Digital Tools:
- Utilize BIM tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks) to visualize and analyze spatial conflicts.
- Conduct 3D model reviews and clash detection to pre-empt construction issues.
- Use tools like Bluebeam Revu for drawing markup and collaborative review.
- Continuous Improvement and Knowledge Sharing:
- Stay current with industry best practices, construction innovations, and regulatory changes.
- Mentor junior engineers or project staff on constructability best practices and critical thinking.
- Value Engineering Participation:
- Support value engineering (VE) initiatives by proposing design changes that improve efficiency, reduce cost, or simplify construction without sacrificing design intent or quality.
- Recommend alternative materials, systems, or methodologies based on constructability and market availability.
- Document Management and Reporting:
- Prepare formal constructability review reports, issue logs, redlines, and commentaries.
- Track resolution of constructability issues and verify implementation in revised designs.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of construction materials, systems, and methodologies across various building types (commercial, industrial, healthcare, data center).
- Proficiency in interpreting and cross-referencing construction documents including specifications, schedules, and technical drawings.
- Construction Software Proficiency:
- Advanced experience with design and construction tools such as:
- Autodesk Revit (for BIM modeling)
- Navisworks Manage (for model coordination and clash detection)
- Bluebeam Revu (for PDF markup and collaboration)
- AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or Tekla Structures
- Primavera P6 or MS Project (for schedule review)
- Advanced experience with design and construction tools such as:
- Interpersonal & Leadership:
- Collaborative approach with the ability to challenge design decisions diplomatically.
- Ability to influence outcomes and guide teams toward practical solutions.
