Advocate Health Care is seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist for our Gurnee location.
Base Pay Range$19.45/hr $29.20/hr
Major Responsibilities- Verify positive patient identification to ensure patient safety and assess patient reactions to specimen procurement.
- Perform venipuncture and collect specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol; obtain medical assistance when necessary.
- Obtain specimens according to priority and scheduled draw times, ensuring completion of specimen collection functions, proper labeling, and suitability for testing; resolve specimen identification and/or requisition problems.
- Perform limited testing under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), 1988 guidelines according to established policies and procedures.
- Answer and screen telephone calls; assist with inventory, maintain supplies and equipment; provide assistance in support of billing and other business functions.
- Accept specimens from a variety of internal and external customers; receive, sort, package, and track specimens for transport.
- Order and verify test requests; document appropriate information for quality assurance/improvement according to established protocol.
- Enter laboratory results into the computer system.
- Perform internal and external proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples; review pending and management reports; generate and distribute reports.
- Instruct employees and students in phlebotomy, data entry, and specimen processing functions.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to patients of all ages.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year of phlebotomy experience, preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
- Basic computer skills, including experience using computer software applications.
- Keyboarding and typing skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with good listening skills.
- Ability to work in a fast?paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrated customer?service skills to interface effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, and other healthcare employees.
- Operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
- Frequently lift up to 10 lbs; occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and bend most of the workday.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radioactive, and/or infectious agents.
- Will be exposed to human blood and body fluids.
- Must wear appropriate lab coat, gloves, gowns, and eye/face protection as needed.
