Associate Director of Technical Services

Join us in designing the grid of the future EPE is excited to welcome an Associate Director of Technical Services with expertise in Interconnection or Transmission Planning studies. We seek professionals experienced in the ISO New England and NYISO territories, specifically those who are ready to support our growth strategy while providing valuable insights to our clients.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and advise both internal and external stakeholders on complex interconnection studies, including loadflow, short circuit, and transient stability, across various ISOs and Utilities in the Eastern Interconnect.
- Utilize strong collaboration skills to unite diverse teams across the organization, ensuring an exceptional client experience.
- Review interconnection study results from ISO or Utility sources, replicating findings to identify errors or suggest alternative mitigations that could affect network upgrades and project success.
- Assist generation, large load, and merchant transmission developers in navigating interconnection processes, emphasizing ISO New England and NYISO while also addressing the broader Eastern Interconnect.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop innovative tools and services.
- Act as a subject matter expert on interconnection-related studies, staying informed about industry trends and regulatory changes.
- Demonstrate a passion for solving complex technical problems by providing innovative solutions and taking ownership of the outcomes.
- Establish and enhance relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, industry organizations, and regulatory agencies.
- Support responses to RFPs, DOE grants, and develop Scopes of Work.
- Engage in industry activities such as conferences, speaking opportunities, and technical paper submissions.
- Preferably possess deep expertise in NYISO or ISO New England, with knowledge of other Eastern Interconnect regions being advantageous.
Qualifications
- At least 8 years of experience in the electric energy industry.
- Background in IBR modeling, transmission planning, and/or interconnection studies.
- Active engagement and leadership in industry taskforces or working groups.
- Strong understanding of FERC, NERC, and ISO interconnection requirements and standards.
- Proficiency in software packages such as PSSE, TARA, PSLF, PowerWorld, ASPEN, and PSCAD.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience managing and mentoring technical teams.
Beneficial Experience
- First-hand experience with ISO New England, NYISO, or relevant utilities as a consultant.
- Experience conducting large load interconnection studies.
- Knowledge of DER interconnection or studies.
- Familiarity with automation tools such as Python, C#, or SQL.
