About the role:

This is a 6-month recurring seasonal role, based in SLC, with the opportunity to lead trips during June and September-December. The ideal candidate is a high performing Trip Leader in the top 75th percentile with at least 1 year of mentoring and H+T experience. This role is suited for someone who is self-driven, organized, attentive to detail, has exceptional leadership presence as a facilitator and speaker, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, has a "figure it out" kind of attitude who is excited to learn new skills, has knowledge of our US/Global operations, a keen desire to coach/mentor Field Staff/Mentors, and the desire to work with the LD team on all things BLUE, NLTs, and new Field Staff Applicants. This position requires partnership with many departments at Backroads and a deep understanding of both the office and the field. This is an exciting opportunity with long-term potential for growth within Backroads.

What you'll be doing:
  • Facilitate New Field Staff onboarding communication and partner with LDAdmin for certification tracking and compliance. Point of contact for field staff regional "requirements": Permits, medical appointments, regional certifications, etc.
  • Manage Leader Applicant and New Leader Training inbox communications.
  • Communicate to and organize each incoming group of Mentors for smooth prep of each NLT.
  • Partner with NOAM LDL/LDM to ensure NLTs are set up for success. Run day to day logistics of each NLT, manage Support Team, manage NL housing, NL and Mentor Vans, Manual Transmission vehicle, ensure Training facility is organized and efficient.
  • Mentor a group of NLs per NLT as needed. Facilitate segments as needed.
  • Support New field staff in the region with performance, leadership strategies, navigating systems, and best practices.
  • In season: Mentor a team of 10-15 Leaders and provide one on one coaching and mentoring to enhance their leadership.
  • Develop BLUE content with and not limited to LDMs, based on extensive review of Field Staff Survey & new initiatives
  • Review existing videos and collaborate on desired changes/enhancements
  • Help to build Pre-BLUE, BLUE online/ live using current or new Learning Management System - working closely with our Field Training Specialist
  • Build BLUE facilitator notes (emphasis on interactive material)
  • Manage the coordination & point person of BLUEs live or remotely
    • Pre-BLUE communication
    • Organize and set up Facilitators for success
    • Organize Housing/Food/Transport/Social gatherings/Logistics/Facilities
    • Post BLUE Survey
  • Facilitate segments at BLUE - possible travel to other hubs for facilitation
  • Work with scheduling and payroll to monitor BLUE online/live completion
  • Fully embody the Mentor Criteria. Create and Maintain Mentor culture within the Backroads community.


Seasonal Full Time - Seasonal: January 6-June 13, July 13-August 15 with the opportunity to lead trips June 14-July 12 and after August 16.
