Full Time
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for managing the facility's nursing department in alignment with the Nurse Practice Act, state and federal regulations, and the organization's clinical policies and procedures. This leadership role ensures delivery of the highest quality of care, while managing nursing personnel, overseeing compliance initiatives, and participating in organizational performance improvement efforts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct daily rounds on nursing units to assess resident care and staffing needs.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, and discipline nursing staff as needed.
  • Lead and facilitate resident care meetings and interdisciplinary committees.
  • Review and approve staff time sheets and schedules.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and control costs effectively.
  • Promote and support recruitment, retention, and continuing education initiatives for nursing staff.
  • Identify clinical training needs and oversee implementation of staff development programs.
  • Establish and oversee on-call nursing systems and staffing plans based on census.
  • Monitor compliance with clinical protocols, policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Investigate and address resident, family, and employee concerns promptly.
  • Ensure timely and complete performance evaluations and competency assessments.
  • Actively participate in the Employee Recognition and Performance Improvement Programs.
  • Serve as acting Administrator in their absence.
  • Ensure pharmacy, dietary, and physician orders are implemented as required.
  • Compile and submit required data and reports in a timely manner.
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred

Licensure & Certification:
  • Valid RN license in the State of Michigan (Required)
  • Current CPR certification (Required)
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years in a Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, or equivalent supervisory role in long-term care (Required)

Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong leadership and staff management skills
  • Excellent communication abilities across all organizational levels
  • Ability to respond rapidly and decisively in crisis situations
  • Knowledge of clinical staff training methods and evaluation techniques
  • Proficient in organizing priorities and managing workflow
  • Demonstrated understanding of long-term care regulations, Nurse Practice Act, and nursing standards of care
  • Commitment to maintaining resident confidentiality and dignity
Required Skills & Certifications (Must-Haves):
  • RN Licensed in Michigan
  • Long-Term Care Experience as Director of Nursing (DON)
