Instrument Technician

The Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and instrumentation equipment used to monitor and control industrial processes. The technician ensures all work is completed in compliance with safety and operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, motors, VFDs, panels, and wiring in accordance with electrical codes and safety standards.
- Calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation devices such as flow meters, pressure transmitters, temperature probes, level sensors, and control valves.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems.
- Use PLCs, DCS, and SCADA systems for troubleshooting and control adjustments.
- Read and interpret electrical and instrumentation schematics, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
- Ensure all documentation for maintenance, calibration, and repairs are properly completed and filed.
- Support plant operations by responding to equipment failures and process disruptions.
- Work closely with engineers, maintenance staff, and operations to improve equipment reliability.
- Comply with all company safety procedures, policies, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., NEC, OSHA, NFPA 70E).
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's degree or technical certification in electrical/instrumentation or industrial technology preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
- ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST)
- Journeyman Electrician License
- OSHA 10/30 or NFPA 70E Training
- Strong knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems, instrumentation calibration, and process controls.
- Familiarity with PLC programming and HMI/SCADA interfaces.
- Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools (multimeters, meggers, calibrators, etc.).
- Ability to work from heights, in confined spaces, and in all-weather conditions.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in elevated areas.
- Exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and varying temperatures.
- Must be willing to work overtime, on-call, or rotating shifts as needed.
