The Role:
The Senior Systems Engineer for Vehicle Engineering & Quality IT (VEQ IT) will play a crucial role in defining and managing the architecture and engineering activities associated with various Cloud and SaaS platforms for GM Defense. This position is pivotal in the development of GEN2 compute capabilities, enabling both domestic and international business expansion by addressing existing challenges. You will collaborate closely with the principal systems engineering leader to implement a cohesive computing strategy, select appropriate SaaS/Cloud platforms, and ensure alignment with the overall software strategy encompassing AI, SaaS, and Cloud solutions.
The ideal candidate will excel at assessing foundational approaches to establish a secure Cloud framework, effectively leveraging telecom infrastructure, and defining secure policies. You should possess deep, hands-on expertise in setting up automated pipeline processes, developing policy scripts, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and security controls. Strong collaboration skills are essential for working with technology experts and application owners to engineer policies and optimize CI/CD pipelines for application deployment and maintenance.
What You'll Do:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders to lead the architecture and engineering of the cloud foundation and related structures for GM Defense.
- Research and assess various platform engineering options to recommend the most suitable technology solutions.
- Utilize strong analytical skills and established relationships with technology vendors to propose solutions that enhance platform automation.
- Align with the overarching software organization platform engineering strategy while tailoring to the specific needs of the GM Defense portfolio.
- Demonstrate self-motivation with a strategic mindset and hold yourself and your colleagues accountable for embodying GM's values.
- Develop and manage reusable scripts and other constructs using enterprise-approved code management and pipeline solutions.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in large organizations in platform engineering, code management, and pipeline management, ideally within the automotive or technology sectors.
- 7+ years of experience in DevOps or related functions, with proficiency in Terraform, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and engineering policy scripting.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Master's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in large organizations, with a focus on platform engineering, code management, and pipeline management in the automotive, manufacturing, or technology sectors.
- Experience with Gov Cloud environments.
Company Vehicle:
Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible for a company vehicle evaluation program that allows you to drive and evaluate a General Motors vehicle. Note that participants are required to purchase or lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless exceptions apply.
