Teller County's Department of Human Services is seeking a full-time Social Caseworker II -Adult Protection responsible for the implementation of interventions and the development of care plans for at-risk adults with the goal of correcting or alleviating situations in which imminent or actual danger of abuse, neglect, or exploitation exists. This role works as part of a team to review reports of adult abuse, neglect or exploitation to determine if an investigation should be initiated and investigates referrals to determine if abuse, neglect or exploitation occurred and implement supports and services

What You'll Do:

(1) Contribute as part of a team to determine if reports of possible abuse, neglect or exploitation merit further investigation by Adult Protective Services.

(2) Investigate Adult Protective Services referrals for possible abuse, neglect or exploitation; interview and observe clients, family members and other relevant sources.

(3) Initiate appropriate action to include elderly or disabled adult removal from hostile environment, petition to initiate guardianship proceedings or other legal intervention or service to alleviate situation based on investigation.

(4) Work closely with attorneys and guardians regarding ongoing court cases; testify and make recommendations to the court.

(5) With support from APS team, develop and implement adult care plans utilizing client relatives, friends and community support systems to resolve abusive, neglectful or exploitative situations. Provide advocacy for clients with no party to assist them.

(6) Document case plans, assessments, contacts and recommendations; prepare and maintain confidential client case files.

(7) Give presentations on Adult Protection Services to various audiences as required.

(8) Participate in conferences, staff meetings, workshops and attend training sessions required for both Adult Protection Services and for Teller County Department of Human Services.

Requirements

What You'll Bring:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with an equivalent of thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter hours in human behavioral sciences or health care related course such as social work, sociology, psychology, psychiatry, gerontology, nursing, special education, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measures, therapeutic techniques, guidance and counseling, criminal justice, other human behavioral sciences or a medical field relevant to the APS program and /or at risk adults;
  • Plus one (1) year of professional casework experience;
  • Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.


You Also Have These Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of: dynamics of disabled adults and the elderly; casework practices, procedures and guidelines; investigatory techniques and practices utilized in obtaining information; principles and processes for providing excellent customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Skilled in: use of basic computer software programs; understanding and applying pertinent laws, rules, regulations and policies; using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines; maintaining confidentiality; organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines and following up on assignments with minimum direction and supervision; applying logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks; understanding, interpreting and communicating complicated policies, procedures and protocols; working in a deadline driven environment; initiating and responding to medium volume of daily calls/contact; interacting with all levels of internal and external professionals while developing strong productive relationships; designing strategies, analyzing results and making recommendations; organization and time management.

Ability to: effectively and accurately complete paperwork, reports and documentation; communicate effectively in writing and verbally; establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with co-workers, other county departments, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and the public; maintain confidentiality and discretion; be a self-starter; successfully accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously while working independently or within a team environment; work with minimal supervision; deal with a variety of people, cultures, problems and circumstances; analyze and resolve problems involving several variables; understand and carry out written and oral instructions, giving close attention to detail and accuracy.

Additional Details About the Role:

Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking : Must be able to communicate with clients and co-workers in person and by telephone; ability to hear in person and by telephone; ability to see and read printed materials and documents and characters on a computer screen and traffic signs.

Physical Effort/Dexterity : Ability to perform moderate physical work and to lift and carry up to 25 pounds; ability to use a typing

keyboard, operate office equipment, drive a vehicle; ability to stand, walk, sit, ride, bend, grasp and reach.

Environmental Factors: Work is performed in an office setting, client's homes and residential facilities. Elements of weather are sometimes encountered; caution must be exercised when intervening in abuse, conflict cases.

Work Schedule/Characteristics: 40 hours per week, with occasional after-hours work.

License/Certification Requirements : Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver's license; Successful completion of Colorado Adult Protection Services Training Academy. Ability to pass all background checks (CBI etc.) and ability to pass a drug test.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range : $25.55 - $26.82

Status : Full-time, Non- Exempt
