Job Summary

This position involves essential duties to provide respiratory therapy to patients as per physician's orders and departmental policy. The role requires independent work in acute and critical care settings, where you will collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to recommend appropriate treatment plans. You will need to have the skills required to treat patients across all age groups, including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

We offer various sign-on bonuses for eligible full-time positions: $7,500 for Direct Care Respiratory Therapists with one year of experience ($5,000 for those with less than one year), and who are licensed in South Carolina. Accountabilities

  • Independently perform respiratory therapy procedures in accordance with physician's orders and departmental protocols - 20%
  • Obtain and accurately analyze blood gas samples from all sites - 10%
  • Initiate, monitor, and manage patients requiring all types of mechanical ventilation - 20%
  • Manage airways and associated equipment effectively - 10%
  • Document and charge for all respiratory care tasks and provide patient and family education - 10%
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, including students and nurse shadows, providing comprehensive reports and recommendations - 10%
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and perform appropriate cleaning/disinfection between patients - 10%
  • Act responsibly with resources, including supplies and time management.

Supervisory/Management Responsibility

This position is non-management and will report to supervisory personnel.

Minimum Requirements

Must be a graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program or eligible for licensure in South Carolina, or a senior student scheduled to graduate within three months.

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

You must hold a license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in South Carolina, or be eligible for such licensure, or be a senior graduating imminently. BLS certification is required, and NBRC credentials must be maintained. Certification as a Respiratory Therapist is required for employees hired after June 2016, who must also complete the Clinical Simulation Exam within six months of graduation. Failure to pass may lead to termination from Prisma Health.

NRP and PALS certification is required for the Children's Hospital role before independently working in the NICU and PICU.

Other Required Skills and Experience
