The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Teen Trip Staffto join our team.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

As a Teen Trip Staff you will be responsible for leading backpacking and water based trips for a group of 10-12 teens ages 13-17. If hired for this position, you will live and work in a cabin/yurts, with a co-leader, to provide constructive and responsible leadership. You will also be responsible for developing camper character and values; fosters community, encouraging group leadership, and developing stewardship while facilitating group discussions and activities related to values, leadership, and self-awareness all while providing a quality experience to campers and families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with Teen and Trips Director to facilitate teen leadership programs.
  • Deliver progressive leadership programming, as part of camp's teen leadership programs.
  • Supervise, engage and build community with campers.
  • Lead safe, programmed, skill building, and fun off-site trips. Maintain awareness and supervision of campers.
  • Follow guidelines for off-camp trips as explained in the Adventure Manual.
  • Follow camp safety guidelines; follow National Park/Forest regulations and always abide by "leave no trace" guidelines.
  • Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
  • Assist staff leadership team in reaching campaign goals through recruiting campaigners, making personal asks and supporting branch events.
  • Staff are responsible for understanding, executing, and upholding all camp safety protocols and standards while off-site/on-trail.
  • Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment.

  • Preferred: Experience in leading trip/travel program and/or personal outdoor experience.
  • Positive attitude and previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge and skills in program activities and related equipment set-up, and the ability to instruct participants in age appropriate techniques.
  • Required: Wilderness First Aid or First Responder (must have by the start of staff training).
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications.
  • Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day. Complete other online and in-person training as required.
*This is a Residential position that includes room and board*

Starting Wage: $480 to $510 per week, depending on qualifications

Date of Employment: June 8th, 2026 - August 21st, 2026

Location: YMCA Camp Seymour, Gig Harbor, WA

Location: YMCA Camp Seymour

Reports to: Summer Camp Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

Works with a co-leader to provide constructive, responsible leadership and guidance for a group of 10-12 teens ages 13-17. Leads backpacking and water based trips. Develops camper character and values; fosters community, encourages group leadership, and develops stewardship. Facilitates group discussions and activities related to values, leadership, and self-awareness. Provides a quality experience to campers & families focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Represents the YMCA and self in a professional manner of safety and fun.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning and Program Delivery:
  • Facilitate trip programs (Teen Wilderness Adventure and South Sound Kayak) with a co-leader.
  • Supervise, engage and build community with campers.
  • Lead safe, programmed, skill building, and fun off-site trips. Maintain awareness and supervision of campers. Follow guidelines for off-camp trips as explained in the Adventure Manual.

Financial Development and Philanthropy:
  • Meet performance measurement through annual giving, major gifts, and/or endowment by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.

  • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move a higher amount.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must participate in programming outdoors.
