Title: Senior Project Manager
Scope of Position:
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading, coordinating, and executing complex projects across Waterbury HEALTH to support operational efficiency, strategic growth, and organizational improvement. Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this role manages a diverse portfolio of initiatives including real estate and property oversight, capital planning, departmental operations, and Materials Management-related projects.
The Senior Project Manager ensures projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget by applying recognized project management methodologies, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, and proactively identifying and mitigating risks. The role serves as a strategic partner to hospital leadership and department managers, providing expert guidance, structured processes, and data-driven decision support. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
Responsibilities
Real Estate & Property Management
• Oversees the full lifecycle of real estate property management, including lease evaluation, renewals, terminations, and negotiations.
• Maintains a comprehensive inventory of real estate assets, tracking contract terms, compliance requirements, and cost implications.
• Coordinates capital maintenance needs for all real estate holdings, ensuring timely repairs, upgrades, and facility improvements.
• Works closely with Legal, Facilities, Finance, and external partners to ensure property-related activities meet organizational, regulatory, and financial standards.
Project Leadership & Execution
• Leads multidisciplinary project teams to execute initiatives aligned with strategic and operational priorities identified by the COO.
• Establishes project charters, work plans, timelines, budgets, and communication plans for all assigned initiatives.
• Ensures adherence to project management methodologies, including scope control, stakeholder engagement, documentation, and performance tracking.
• Facilitates project meetings, prepares dashboards and progress reports, and communicates project status to Administration and key stakeholders.
• Identifies risks, develops mitigation strategies, and resolves issues proactively to maintain project momentum.
Departmental Support & Consultation
• Provides expert consultation and hands-on support to departments for projects related to Materials Management, Operations, and Capital Planning.
• Guides departments through structured project management practices, including prioritization, resource allocation, workflow design, and implementation planning.
• Supports the development of business cases, cost-benefit analyses, and project justification documents.
• Partners with clinical, operational, and administrative areas to standardize processes and improve cross-departmental coordination.
Process Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
• Assesses the effectiveness of current project management methodologies and identifies opportunities for improvement or standardization.
• Recommends tools, templates, and best practices to enhance organizational project management maturity.
• Conducts post-implementation reviews to evaluate outcomes and capture lessons learned.
• Promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement in project execution.
Administrative & Financial Support
• Prepares regular project status summaries and executive-level presentations for the COO and Administration.
• Assists in developing departmental operating and capital budgets, ensuring project cost alignment and financial visibility.
• Monitors project-related expenditures, ensures fiscal responsibility, and coordinates with Finance on reporting requirements.
• Completes special assignments and administrative tasks as authorized by the COO.
Other Duties
• Performs additional responsibilities as needed to support organizational goals and evolving hospital priorities.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in a related field required; master's degree in business administration, Healthcare Administration, or related discipline preferred.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in a hospital or healthcare setting; project management experience strongly preferred.
• PMP, Lean, Six Sigma, or other project management certification(s) preferred but not required.
• Demonstrated leadership ability with experience managing cross-functional teams in a complex healthcare environment.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with clinical, technical, and administrative stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and exercise sound judgment in decision-making.
• Advanced understanding of project management principles, tools, and methodologies (e.g., PMI standards, Lean, Six Sigma).
• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, including presentation development and executive communication.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in project documentation.
• Knowledge of resource allocation strategies, risk assessment frameworks, and personnel coordination practices.
• Proficiency in project management software and productivity tools preferred.
