Responsibilities

• Independently perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures per physician orders and departmental policies. - 20%
• Obtain blood gases from all sites, accurately analyze and report results. - 10%
• Initiate, monitor, and manage invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation for patients. - 20%
• Initiate and oversee all types of airways and related equipment. - 10%
• Complete accurate documentation and patient charging for all respiratory services; educate patients and families as needed. - 10%
• Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, including students and nurse observers, providing thorough reports and recommendations. - 10%
• Adhere to infection control and quality initiatives; conduct proper cleaning/disinfection of equipment. - 10%
• Be a responsible steward of resources, including supplies and time.

Supervisory Responsibility

This is a non-management role reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

A graduate of a Respiratory Therapy program accredited by the American Medical Association or an eligible candidate for licensure in South Carolina. Senior students graduating within the next three months are also encouraged to apply.

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

Must possess a Respiratory Care Practitioner license in South Carolina or be eligible for such licensure, along with BLS certification. NBRC credentials are required; those hired before June 2016 may hold a Certified Respiratory Therapist credential. New hires from June 2016 onward must achieve passing scores on both the Therapist Multiple Choice Exam and Clinical Simulation Exam within six months of graduation, with termination possible for failure to pass the latter.

NRP and PALS certification are required prior to working independently in NICU and PICU.

Other Required Skills and Experience

Strong teamwork, communication, computer, and organizational skills are essential.
