We are seeking a Principal Data Scientist to guide the strategic decisions and the development of reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. Our goal is to create safe AI solutions that will revolutionize and improve healthcare experience and outcomes for our customers. Key Responsibilities

AI Innovation & Responsible Generative AI Design AI solutions using Python, computer vision, and generative models like LLMs and diffusion models. Ensure responsible development aligned with Humana's ethical standards, focusing on transparency, safety, and real-world impact.

Agentic AI System Design Build autonomous AI agents using frameworks (i.e. LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI) to support reasoning and decision-making in healthcare.

Enterprise Integration & Business Collaboration Embed AI into Humana's systems and workflows. Partner with business teams to understand challenges, co-create solutions, and communicate AI capabilities clearly-especially around generative AI. Design for scalability, reliability, and compliance.

MLOps & DevOps Collaboration Work with engineering and product teams to implement best practices for deploying and maintaining AI models in production.

Possesses extensive experience in applying advanced machine learning, NLP, Generative AI techniques, etc. to business problems and delivering end-to-end enterprise grade solutions.

Develops, maintains, and collects structured and unstructured data sets for analysis and reporting.

Creates reports, projections, models, and presentations to support business strategy and tactics.

Works with senior executives to develop and drive segment or enterprise-wide functional strategies.

Advises one or more areas, programs or functions and provides recommendations to senior executives on matters of significance, and as an advanced subject matter expert competent to work at very high levels in multiple knowledge and functional areas across the enterprise.

Required Qualifications

Educational Background : Master's degree or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.

Experience : Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in data science. 5+ years specifically focused on AI and NLP applications.

Technical Skills : Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, with extensive experience in NLP libraries (e.g., NLTK, spaCy, Hugging Face Transformers) and frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch for model development.

Analytical Expertise : Demonstrated ability to process and analyze large textual datasets, extracting meaningful insights, building predictive models, using generative AI techniques.

Communication Skills : Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to articulate complex concepts in a clear and concise manner to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.

Problem-Solving Skills : Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, with a track record of delivering data-driven solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications

Industry Knowledge : Familiarity with the healthcare sector, specifically Medicare Advantage, and an understanding of regulatory frameworks and market dynamics.

Advanced Technical Skills : Experience with cloud-based AI solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure) and familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI for presenting findings.

Leadership Experience : Proven experience in a leadership capacity, mentoring junior data scientists and managing cross-functional projects that leverage generative AI and NLP.

Research Contributions : Publications in reputable journals or conferences related to AI, NLP, or machine learning, demonstrating thought leadership in the field.

Certifications : Relevant certifications in machine learning or NLP, such as those offered by recognized institutions or organizations (e.g., TensorFlow Developer Certificate, NLP Specialization by deeplearning.ai).

Pay Range
The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.
$172,200 - $236,900 per year
This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
