Under general direction, the Heroes Hall Supervisor serves as a member of the OC Fair & Event Center's operations management team to plan, develop, design, implement, promote and supervise Heroes Hall Museum and Education Center.

As part of the State's efforts to address ongoing budget shortfalls, from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027, the Personal Leave Program 2025 [PLP] will be in effect. This consists of a 3% pay reduction in base monthly salary in exchange for an accrual of 5 hours of PLP leave per month. The salary range included in the job advertisement does not reflect the reduction in pay.

Department Information
The 32nd District Agricultural Association, also known as the OC Fair & Event Center (OCFEC) is a state agency under jurisdiction of the California Department of Food & Agriculture. The governing authority is a nine-member Board of Directors.

OCFEC is located in Costa Mesa, California on 130 acres that include educational assets like Centennial Farm and Heroes Hall. With an annual budget of $50 + million, the organization produces a STEAM education event, Imaginology and the highly-anticipated OC Fair each year. The OC Fair is one of the top ten Fairs in the nation and top three in California. In addition to the annual OC Fair, promoters host over 150 year-round events on our beautiful grounds.

The organization employs approximately 120 full-time civil service employees and 300 part-time, temporary employees on a year-round basis. The organization also employs approximately 1,400 part-time staff members at fair time.

Special Requirements Must be available to work 5 days per week, Wednesday through Sunday, on any shift between mid-July and mid-August and Heroes Hall events as needed .

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • Three or more years of increasingly responsible experience in an exhibit, theatre design, multimedia, museum or related environment.
  • Knowledge of veterans' history and issues to develop educational exhibits for the public.
  • Knowledge of personal narrative art to capture veterans' personal stories to develop educational exhibits for the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the Heroes Hall Veterans Foundation, coworkers, business partners, individuals within the Veterans community and others contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to develop departmental operational budget on an annual basis and manage costs to remain within approved budgetary parameters for the year
  • Ability to analyze and resolve customer service issues related to Heroes Hall to ensure the highest level of customer service
  • Ability to maintain calm demeanor and make sound decisions in stressful situations in order to complete assigned work safely and efficiently
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively (e.g., supervisors, co-workers, volunteers, patrons, employees of other departments and all of the OC Fair and Event Center) to complete department tasks in a timely manner
  • Ability to be a strong team leader through the use of a multifaceted leadership skill set (e.g., setting and upholding expectations, coaching, moral building), under the supervision of the Exhibits & Education Director.
  • Ability to organize, present, and communicate information effectively through concept to finished design
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while delegating tasks to meet department deadlines in a timely manner
  • Ability to work with museum collections and exhibits to develop community-based programming and materials to promote both permanent and visiting collections.
  • Ability to coordinate public events and ceremonies to strengthen the outreach of Heroes Hall.
  • Ability to research and curate museums to create educational opportunities for the visitors of Heroes Hall.
  • Ability to develop partnerships with other agencies and nonprofit organizations to expand educational programming
  • Ability to effectively develop and promote the Heroes Hall volunteer program.
  • Personal characteristic of a willingness to work irregular hours and/or varying shifts, as requested, in order to maintain adequate coverage during hours of operation for the annual OCFEC and non-fair events.
  • Personal characteristic to act with integrity and honesty to promote the mission of the OC Fair & Event Center.
