Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position requiring a WI or compact RN license and critical care skills.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a Surgical ICU (SICU) within an acute care hospital setting
• 16 beds plus 2 procedural beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2, 1:1 for high acuity, and 1:3 for lower acuity patients
• Patient population includes cardiovascular surgery, trauma (level 2), NSTEMI/STEMI, vascular, neurosurgery, general, ortho, and ENT surgical ICU patients
• RNs administer and titrate drips including epi, norepi, propofol, precedex, vaso, dobutamine, heparin, insulin, dopamine, neo, and milrinone
• Unit uses Cerner with transition to Epic expected; experience with Cerner preferred
• Shifts are 12 hours, with both days and nights available; every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Floating required to MICU or as patient observer within the hospital when not needed in SICU
• Clean, professional attire required; no specific scrub color
• Charge nurse available each shift and intensivist in-house 24/7
• Orientation includes a one-day onboarding followed by two unit orientation shifts
• Responsibilities include direct monitoring and care of complex post-surgical and high-acuity patients in a level 2 trauma center
• RNs are responsible for monitoring telemetry and documenting rhythm strips with GE monitoring equipment
• Support staff includes a nurse aide during day shifts and 24/7 RT coverage
• Holiday coverage and every other weekend are required
• Must complete system onboarding, computer-based training, and a skills checklist prior to independent practice
• First-time travelers are considered
• All clinicians are required to clock in and out at the facility

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU or SICU RN experience
• Current ACLS (AHA) and BLS (AHA) certifications required; TNCC and NIHSS preferred
• Experience caring for high acuity and post-operative cardiac patients strongly preferred
• Ability to titrate critical drips and manage complex ICU equipment
• Must provide two professional references: one supervisor and one peer or additional supervisor
• Former permanent staff must have a minimum 6-month separation before consideration
• Local candidates within 80 miles permitted, but a local rate applies
