As an Animal Care Associate, your primary mission will be to provide exceptional care and husbandry for all companion animals and aquatic life within the Pet Care Center (PCC). You will play an essential role in ensuring animal health and support the PCC’s sales targets. Your responsibilities will include executing merchandising and inventory strategies while collaborating closely with the sales team to meet the needs of our guests and their pets. • Demonstrate a strong knowledge and passion for the welfare of companion animals and aquatic life.
• Ensure the proper care of all animals, complete health checks, and maintenance records as required.
• Create a positive guest experience through efficient register transactions.
• Support guest interactions with a focus on our selling model.
• Maintain clean and well-presented merchandise displays.
• Complete training to enhance expertise and educate fellow team members on animal care.
• Foster a culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration.
• Adhere to operational guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Serve as a key resource for guests and fellow team members regarding animal care education.
• Efficiently manage orders for animals, supplies, and merchandise to optimize sales and inventory.
• Analyze inventory data and identify areas for improvement.
• Maintain the visual clarity and cleanliness of animal habitats and aquatic environments.
• Ensure proper protocols for adopted and relinquished animals are followed.
• Participate in physical inventory counts and maintain safety and loss prevention standards.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of one year of experience in caring for companion animals and aquatic life is required.
• Strong knowledge of animal care and sales techniques.
• A professional appearance coupled with a genuine interest in animal welfare.
• Strong communication skills for effective interaction with guests and team members.

Certification:
Completion and maintenance of the Petco Animal Care Certification program is a requirement for this role.

Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) along with demonstrated proficiency in mathematics and verbal communication is required.

This position also involves supervisory responsibilities, ensuring the Pet Care Center operates safely and effectively.

Work Environment:
Most job duties will be performed indoors, with occasional outdoor duties such as guest carryouts and veterinary visits. Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods. Flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends, is necessary.
