Maintenance Planner

Summary
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for work order management via the CMMS system, developing detailed maintenance job plans, identifying tools, resources, and materials needed for planned maintenance activities, and ensuring safety protocols are integrated throughout all plans. This position plays a critical role in optimizing equipment reliability, reducing downtime, and supporting plant safety and productivity through thorough planning and preparation.
Essential Duties
- Promote a safe, clean work environment where safety is the highest priority.
- Ensure all job plans incorporate required safety procedures, pre-job assessments, and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Oversee and uphold the planning components of the workflow process, including work identification, detailed planning, coordination, auditing plan effectiveness, and identifying improvement opportunities.
- Develop detailed job plans for maintenance activities, including safety steps, labor requirements, materials, tools, and procedures.
- Develop and maintain a job plan library within the CMMS for future use.
- Act as a key link between preventive and predictive maintenance programs, translating PM/PdM findings into actionable plans.
- Manage and maintain the backlog of work orders, ensuring prioritization and incorporation into team schedules. Lead backlog review and prioritization meetings with Maintenance, Operations, Safety, Quality, and Engineering.
- Identify and generate purchase requests for non-stock parts and tools.
- Serve as the primary liaison for coordinating planned maintenance activities with outside contractors, ensuring compliance with site policies.
- Process, review, investigate, and manage maintenance work orders from initiation through Ready to Schedule or Awaiting Materials status.
- Maintain and update preventive/predictive maintenance plans, job plans, work frequencies, and related data within the CMMS.
- Partner with maintenance, production, and engineering teams regarding planned maintenance requirements and resource needs.
- Identify materials required for planned work and create new item numbers as necessary.
- Support project planning tasks including analysis, maintainability input, capital request preparation, and cost estimation.
- May perform maintenance scheduling duties depending on plant size.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED
- 5+ years industrial manufacturing experience, preferably in continuous manufacturing
- 3+ years experience in a maintenance department using work order systems
- Associate's degree, technical degree, or related certification
- Knowledge of critical path analysis
- Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical manuals
- Understanding of mechanical and electrical industrial processes
- Knowledge of maintenance planning principles and coordination practices
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Team-oriented with ability to influence without authority
- Commitment to continuous improvement and openness to new methods
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work under limited supervision and make independent decisions
- Excellent organizational skills
- Working knowledge of CMMS/Project Management systems
- Understanding of maintenance resources: time, materials, personnel, tools
- Intermediate proficiency in Google Suite
- Experience using root cause analysis for troubleshooting
- Intermediate skills in debugging and troubleshooting machine systems
- Advanced knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Knowledge of variable frequency drives, AC & DC drives
- Knowledge of rotating equipment, machine design, bearings, lubrication
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, drawings, and sketches
- Familiarity with standard manufacturing concepts and procedures
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing plans to achieve operational objectives
