RN Director Behavioral Health

This highly recognized hospital is seeking an RN Director Behavioral Health for an exceptional opportunity to lead a compassionate, trauma-informed team within an established inpatient program. RN Director Behavioral Health will join an approximately 30+ bed critical access hospital with a shared governance nursing model, strong interprofessional collaboration, and a deep commitment to evidence-based practice. This Joint Commission-accredited organization is recognized for quality and patient safety initiatives that support high-performing behavioral health services. The supportive infrastructure empowers the RN Director Behavioral Health to implement programs that advance clinical quality, safety, and staff development.

RN Director Behavioral Health reports to the Chief Nursing Officer and partners closely with the Psychiatry Medical Director. Direct reports typically include charge nurses, nurse managers, clinical educators, and unit-based RN teams, while the RN Director Behavioral Health collaborates frequently with social work, case management, quality, emergency services, pharmacy, and security to drive seamless, patient-centered operations.

RN Director Behavioral Health will oversee a 32-bed adult inpatient behavioral health unit with an average daily census in the mid-20s and approximately 75-85 FTEs. The environment is professional, safety-focused, and supportive, with engaged psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, and experienced behavioral health techs-offering the RN Director Behavioral Health a strong platform for innovation and team growth.

RN Director Behavioral Health will champion evidence-based and trauma-informed nursing practice, advancing clinical competencies, mentoring, and education while driving quality, safety, and patient experience initiatives across the continuum. On the administrative side, RN Director Behavioral Health leads budgeting and staffing, throughput and capacity management, policy development and regulatory readiness, operations and physician relations, and community liaison efforts that strengthen continuity of care. Qualifications include high school graduation or GED and a BSN (required); current Washington RN license; Health Care Provider CPR; ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire; PMH-BC on hire or within 24 months (required); and English fluency, with preferences for an MSN, three years of acute healthcare experience, prior charge/leadership responsibilities, adult-learning and staff education expertise, strong public speaking and interpersonal skills, and proficiency with MS Office and clinical information systems for the RN Director Behavioral Health.
