The Sr. Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) is engaged to support complex issues, conduct analysis and introduce solutions that will support the software application needs of our business partners and their requirements. The Senior Software Engineer work assignments will include engaging across multiple test tool technologies, including emerging AI test tool solutions.

The Sr. SDET will engage across teams to standardize the quality enablement approach to implementing software test solutions. Research solutions to make necessary adjustments and/or recommendations to resolve complex software related issues.

The Sr. SDET will begin to influence department's strategy. Makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical approach for project components, and work is performed without direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

The Sr. SDET develops and supports software quality tools and carries out procedures to ensure that all information systems products and services meet organization standards and end-user requirements. The Senior Software Engineer will be a source of test tool solution guidance and provide input into expanding our tooling solution to include AI test tool solutions. The Software Engineer work assignments are varied and frequently require interpretation and independent determination of the appropriate courses of action.

The Sr. SDET develops software quality systems and platforms to enable application teams to develop software with proper operation. May create test data for applications. Documents and works to resolve all complex problems. Understands quality metric reporting the need to promote continuous improvement and identify improvement focus areas. Effectively communicate progress on problem resolution to management.

Devises improvements to current procedures and develops models of possible future configurations. Acts as information resource supporting agile delivery team members with quality solutions and test tool solutions. Performs complex work-flow analysis and recommends quality improvements.

Understands department, segment, and organizational strategy and operating objectives, including their linkages to related areas. Makes decisions regarding own work methods, occasionally in ambiguous situations, and requires minimal direction and receives guidance where needed. Follows established guidelines/procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field

  • 5 or more years of experience designing, developing, and testing of software applications and/or infrastructure

  • Proficient in one or more programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript.

  • Extensive experience with modern testing frameworks and tools (e.g., Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, Cypress, Postman).

  • Hands-on, relevant experience with Postgres in cloud native environment.

  • Hands-on experience implementing and maintaining automated test suites for APIs, web applications, and cloud platforms.

  • Demonstrated ability to research, evaluate, and adopt new test tools, including emerging AI-enabled solutions.

  • Strong understanding of CI/CD processes and integration of test automation within pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of resolving complex software issues independently.

  • Familiarity with quality metric reporting, continuous improvement practices, and root cause analysis.

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, collaborating cross-functionally with development, product, and business teams.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development in software quality engineering.

Work-At-Home Requirements

To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates' ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates must meet the following criteria:

  • At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is recommended; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested

  • Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership

  • Associates who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.

  • Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.

  • Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information

Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$106,900 - $147,000 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
