The Ultrasound Department Supervisor will join a Joint Commission-accredited, approximately 250-bed regional medical center with a track record of quality outcomes and multidisciplinary collaboration. This Ultrasound Department Supervisor will support services aligned with evidence-based practices, ACR-accredited imaging standards, and a patient-first mission in a teaching-friendly environment.
The Ultrasound Department Supervisor reports to the Director/Manager of Radiology Services, partnering closely with Radiology leadership for strategy and day-to-day operations. The Ultrasound Department Supervisor directly leads a team of sonographers/ultrasound technologists and collaborates with radiologists, ED and inpatient teams, Women's Services/MFM, Cardiology/Vascular, Scheduling, PACS/IT, and Biomedical Engineering to deliver seamless care.
The Ultrasound Department Supervisor oversees a busy diagnostic ultrasound service performing general, vascular, OB/GYN, small parts, and procedural support studies, averaging 60-90 exams per day with roughly 12-18 FTEs. The Ultrasound Department Supervisor will guide a professional, supportive team equipped with modern ultrasound platforms, PACS, structured reporting, and a strong QA/QI framework that values teaching, cross-training, and continuous improvement.
The Ultrasound Department Supervisor provides on-shift leadership while actively scanning, ensuring image quality, safety, and compassionate care; develops competencies, mentors staff, leads education, and drives clinical quality improvement and accreditation readiness. The Ultrasound Department Supervisor manages operations including scheduling and coverage, staffing and workflows, equipment upkeep and QC, supply stewardship, policy/protocol updates, physician relations, and participation in call rotation with the Director and Manager. The Ultrasound Department Supervisor qualifications include graduation from an accredited ultrasound program, ARDMS credentialing, current State of New Mexico imaging license, current BLS through the American Heart Association, a minimum of three years at a charge/lead level, and a secondary modality certification preferred.
