Highway Construction Estimator

The Highway Construction Estimator position is responsible for the estimation of the entire project, including reviewing bid documents and specifications, creating take-offs, quantifying, and qualifying material quantities and prices for a precise and accurate bid proposal.
Requirements:
- Review new projects posted for bidding
- Generate and develop bids, leads via electronic and printed sources
- Perform accurate take-off of blueprints to confirm quantities
- Job site inspections for estimates and bids when warranted
- Organize and prepare pre-bid packages: secure plans, specifications, addendums, etc.
- Review bid specifications/blueprints to prepare bid package requirements
- Attending bid openings and pre-construction meetings when warranted
- Maintain relations with all vendors, clients, engineers, architects, owners, etc.
- Communicate bid information to Senior Project Manager
- Obtains pricing for materials
- Obtains bids from subcontractors
- 5+ years' experience with a significant General Contractor employer in the heavy construction industry
- Applicants should have experience, in and an understanding of, the estimating process on medium to large size projects
- Experience with Public works projects involving prevailing wage work within city, county and state agencies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and project management software
- Proven track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget
- Leadership and team management skills to guide project teams effectively
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with clients, vendors, and stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards, DOT regulations, and construction best practices
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze budgets, costs, and project profitability
- Vocational or apprenticeship training supplemented with 3-5 years of construction leadership experience, or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree in Business Management or Construction Management or combination of experience and education
- Work in both office and field settings, requiring adaptability to various conditions
- Regular travel to and from job sites
