Job Summary

Under general supervision, administers respiratory care and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities. Trains and acts as a resource for respiratory department technicians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  3. Promotes culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention.
  4. Maintains hospital standards for a clean and quiet patient environment to maintain a positive patient care experience.
  5. Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice.
  6. Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  7. Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.
  8. Maintains compliance with organization's policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards.
  9. Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.
  10. Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization.
  11. Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies.
  1. Core Duties:
  1. Evaluate patient and render appropriate care utilizing departmental policies/procedures and/or patient driven protocol
  2. Adjust therapy in response to patient needs and/or physician direction and orders
  3. Evaluate patients through interview with patient or family obtaining oral history, review of chart and correct patient identification
  4. Demonstrates correct usage of equipment and follows correct procedure for reporting equipment malfunctions
  5. Monitors patient during procedure and demonstrates/verbalizes appropriate response during emergencies
  6. Maximizes patient's comfort and safety while providing effective communication
  7. Prepares documentation that provides complete and accurate information to provide quality patient care
  8. Demonstrates correct usage of PPE and follows infection control policies and procedures
  9. Serves as a preceptor in training students
  10. Provides effective communication with physicians
  11. Adjust approach and testing based on patient population


Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy training program.
  • Licensed/Certified by the Mississippi State Board of Health
  • Licensed Certified Respiratory Therapist Technician
  • ACLS
  • PALS
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPR or ACLS Certification
Minimum Requirements

Non-Essential Functions:
  • Reads journals and reference books to maintain continuing education.
  • Attends department meetings.
