Description
The CDL Vacuum Tank Truck Driver is responsible for safely operating a vacuum truck to transport and remove liquid and semi-liquid waste from various locations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and supporting the company's mission to promote environmental health and sustainability.
Driving and equipment operation:
- Safely operate a vacuum truck with a manual transmission to load, transport, and unload liquid and semi-liquid materials, such as waste, sludge, and other fluids.
- Operate and maintain the truck's vacuum pump and suction system to ensure proper functionality.
- Obeys all traffic laws set by the state and federal government.
- Perform job site setup and teardown following established protocols.
- Manage loading and unloading of materials and assist with job site operations, which may involve manual labor and working in various conditions like confined spaces or near heavy equipment.
- Maintain open communication with dispatchers and site supervisors to manage job requirements and scheduling.
- Coordinate with customers and/or other team members on site to confirm details and ensure a smooth workflow.
- Conduct and document pre-/post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the vehicle and equipment are in good working order.
- Maintain a clean and orderly vehicle and perform routine maintenance.
- Promptly report any safety concerns or maintenance needs.
- Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines, and environmental regulations for handling and transporting both hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
- Ensure full compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and requirements.
- Complete and maintain all required paperwork, such as daily driver logs, manifests, and other job-related documentation.
Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2 years of truck driving experience preferred.
- Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Tanker Endorsement required, with an excellent driving record for the past 3 years.
- Safely operate a vacuum truck with a manual transmission and navigate routine hazards of the road.
- Work independently to identify and resolve problems, gather and analyze information, and meet time-sensitive productivity standards.
- Professional communication skills, including: reading and interpreting written information; writing clearly and legibly, such as when preparing forms/logs/reports; listening to understand directives, feedback, or complex issues; speaking clearly and persuasively to share information, confirm details, ask follow-up questions, or manage difficult conversations with customers, clients, and other employees of the company.
- Regular and reliable attendance and the ability to work a predictable schedule, as the role requires the seamless coordination of routes and the handling of time-sensitive customer inquiries.
- Ability to meet Department of Transportation (DOT) standards and pass pre-employment and random quarterly drug screenings.
- Industrial settings that may involve hazardous substances, loud noise, confined spaces, or working near heavy machinery and moving equipment.
- Requires frequent outdoor movement and working in various outdoor weather conditions.
- Requires adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Sitting and standing for extended periods.
- Frequent pushing/pulling, reaching, and using fine motor skills.
- Dexterity to move multiple limbs together in a coordinated movement in order to drive or operate machinery.
- Ability to walk short distances outdoors on various terrain at regular intervals.
- Frequent lifting/carrying of heavy supplies, equipment, or materials (up to 50 lbs).
