What Our Client Needs:
Our client is seeking a Principal Cell Process Biochemist to lead and support research and development initiatives focused on the optimization and characterization of biochemical processes for cell-based therapies. This individual will leverage deep biochemical insight into cellular function and cell therapy process design to shape therapeutic initiatives from early discovery through clinical development. The role involves driving innovation in bioreactor design, biomaterials, microfluidics development, and biochemical process optimization to advance next-generation cell therapies.
Who You Are:
You are a highly skilled biochemical scientist with expertise in cellular pathways, cell therapy processes, and bioprocess engineering. You thrive at the intersection of science and engineering, bring a strong record of innovation and collaboration, and have the leadership and technical depth to guide cross-functional teams and mentor junior scientists.
What You'll Do:
- Lead the design and development of novel cell manufacturing platform technologies.
- Analyze and optimize cell metabolism, growth kinetics, and product yield using biochemical and systems biology approaches.
- Design and implement in vitro and in vivo studies to evaluate the effects of cell therapies and platforms on biological systems.
- Support process characterization and validation activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in engineering, quality, and operations to ensure seamless tech transfer and product/process integration.
- Design and execute experiments using Design of Experiments (DoE); interpret complex data sets to guide decisions.
- Prepare technical reports, SOPs, and documentation to support regulatory submissions (e.g., IND, BLA).
- Serve as a scientific leader and mentor to junior scientists, fostering a culture of innovation.
- Publish and present scientific findings; participate in conferences and academic collaborations.
- Partner with leaders in Clinical, Regulatory, Engineering, and Business Development to advance programs and shape strategy.
What You'll Need:
- PhD in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Bioengineering, or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience; or MS with 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of cellular biochemistry including metabolism, protein expression, and stress response.
- Hands-on experience with cell culture, media optimization, and bioreactor operation.
- Experience in cell therapy, CAR-T, or stem cell process development.
- Knowledge of cell harvest, lysis, and purification methods.
- Understanding of critical quality attributes in biologics and cell manufacturing.
- Strong publication and/or patent record in relevant areas preferred.
- Familiarity with regulatory and translational aspects of cellular technologies a plus.
- Excellent communication and presence; skilled at presenting to executive teams, boards, and external stakeholders.
