POSITION SUMMARY

The Therapeutic Recreation Director is accountable for the development, implementation, supervision, and ongoing evaluation of the activity and recreation programs to ultimately enhance residents' quality of life. Completion of the activity's component of the comprehensive individual assessment and contributing to resident care plans to ensure the activities programs are designed to meet the individual interests as well as the physical, emotional, and psychosocial well-being of each resident. Implements programs, monitors responses to them, and determines if individual resident needs are being met, revising as needed and keeping with the Resident's Bill of Rights as well as the facility's Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program. In locations where there are no TR Aides, the TR Director will fulfill the duties of the TR Aide as well.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Activity Program Planning & Delivery: Develops and implements a structured, person-centered activity program based on resident assessments, including group, individual, in-room, and offsite activities.
• Calendar Management & Resident Engagement: Maintains monthly and daily activity calendars, ensures communication of scheduled events, and encourages resident participation in planning and decision-making.
• Resident-Centered Support: Promotes social interaction, emotional well-being, and independence through tailored activities designed to enhance residents' quality of life.
• Assessment, Documentation & Collaboration: Completes timely assessments, updates care plans, documents participation and preferences, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to integrate recreation into resident care.
• Team & Volunteer Oversight: Trains, supervises, and motivates TR staff and volunteers, fostering creativity and ensuring high-quality engagement for residents.
• Compliance, Budgeting & Department Operations: Manages department budget and supplies, ensures compliance with safety and infection control standards, participates in leadership meetings, and maintains a positive, inclusive work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be a licensed or registered Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Activities Professional, qualified occupational therapist/assistant, or have relevant healthcare activity program experience or state-approved training.
• Preferred Background: Experience in healthcare settings such as skilled nursing facilities or assisted living is desirable.
• Core Skills: Strong multitasking, adaptability, resilience, and ability to work effectively in fast-paced and evolving environments.
• Interpersonal Strengths: High emotional intelligence, active listening, clear communication, and the ability to build trust with diverse populations including residents, staff, and families.
