The Role

The Head of Technology for Individual Marketplace is a senior executive who reports to the CTO of WTW, works closely with the Individual Marketplace business leader, and serves on both the Individual Marketplace senior leadership team and the business technology leadership team. The role oversees a global engineering organization of over 300 professionals based in the USA, India and Peru and works collaboratively with peers across WTW's technology leadership community.

The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership across all aspects of technology, from architecture and engineering delivery to security, innovation, and business alignment. The role requires a blend of technical expertise, business acumen, and strong leadership to deliver on our ambitious growth and transformation objectives.

The Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership: Shape and execute the technology vision for the Individual Marketplace, ensuring alignment with broader WTW objectives and the evolving needs of the business and clients.

Technology Delivery: Oversee the timely, high-quality, and cost-effective development, delivery, and operation of business applications and platforms. Ensure that product and technical roadmaps are aligned and executed to meet business targets.

Team Management: Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing product engineering, software, and data management organization of 300+ professionals across the USA, India and Peru. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Collaboration: Actively participate in the Business Technology leadership team and Individual Marketplace senior leadership team. Collaborate with other WTW technologists and business leaders to share best practices, drive cross-business initiatives, and contribute to the overall technology strategy of WTW.

Financial Management: Manage technology budgets, monitor KPIs, and ensure delivery expenditure is within agreed limits. Oversee the reporting of capitalized hours and R&D tax relief as required.

Governance and Security: Ensure robust governance around the selection and use of third-party technologies, open-source components, and adherence to security and compliance policies. Lead ongoing quality assurance, information security, and data protection processes.

Process Excellence: Define and maintain fit-for-purpose software delivery, DevSecOps, and support processes. Champion the adoption of appropriate tools, methods, and agile ways of working.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Sponsor key projects, drive continuous improvement in delivery, and ensure awareness and adoption of emerging technologies that deliver competitive advantage.

Business Partnership: Work closely with product management, commercial, and operations teams to ensure technology enables business growth, client satisfaction, and operational efficiency.

Talent Strategy: Oversee recruitment, retention, training, and career development for engineering teams. Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion, and ensure the workplace is engaging, supportive, and aligned to WTW's values.

Representation and Communication: Represent the technology function internally and externally, communicating strategy, progress, and value to stakeholders, partners, and clients as appropriate

Qualifications

The Qualifications

Mindset: A spirit of continued curiosity and learning would be essential for this role.

Education: Strong academic background, ideally with a degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related discipline.

Leadership Experience: Proven track record as a CIO, CTO, or equivalent senior technology leader within a large-scale software product or platform business; or within a large business application team. Experience managing engineering teams of 300+ people, preferably across multiple geographies.

Technology Expertise: Broad and deep knowledge of software development, architecture, cloud platforms, DevSecOps, and large-scale business applications. Experience delivering SaaS or cloud-based solutions is strongly preferred.

Business Acumen: Demonstrated ability to align technology strategy with business goals, manage budgets, and deliver commercial outcomes.

People Management: Strong skills in building, leading, and developing high-performing teams. Experience with talent management, succession planning, and fostering inclusive, diverse cultures.

Collaboration and Influence: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels across business and technology domains.

Delivery Excellence: Track record of delivering complex, mission-critical technology projects on time and within budget, with an emphasis on quality, security, and user experience.

Location: This is a remote role, based anywhere in the United States, with the ability to travel both internationally and within the US as required to engage with teams and stakeholders. Estimated 25% travel required.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range and benefits information for this position are being included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, qualifications/experience, performance in the role and potential for revenue generation (Producer roles only).

Compensation

The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $240,000- $300,000 USD per year. This role is also eligible for an annual short-term incentive bonus.
